March 9, 2010

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Colleen McArthur is the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week in women's tennis for March 1-7. It's the first time she has won the award.
McArthur, a senior from Marietta, Ga., and a graduate of Pace Academy, was unbeaten in singles and doubles to help the Gold Nuggets win dual matches against William Carey and LSU-Shreveport and extend their win streak to a season-high six duals.
McArthur defeated William Carey's Aimi Beresford 6-0, 6-1 and teamed with Carmen Nelson for an 8-0 victory over Beresford and Hannah Johnson. Three days later McArthur beat Lauren Simmons of LSUS 6-1, 6-1 and paired with Nelson for an 8-1 decision against Simmons and Lindsey Crane.
McArthur is the Nuggets' second GCAC weekly winner this season. Angelina Callis earned the honor for Feb. 8-14.
Xavier's women (8-3) will travel to Montgomery, Ala., for the AUM Spring Invitational starting Friday.
