Gold Nuggets win at LSUS for sixth consecutive victory

SHREVEPORT, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana,
ranked 21st in the NAIA, improved its women's tennis winning streak to six
Sunday with a 9-0 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference decision against LSU-Shreveport.
The Gold Nuggets (8-3 overall, 8-1 GCAC) won three
singles matches and two doubles matches without dropping a game. All-American
Angelina Callis, playing at No. 2 singles, clinched the dual with her 6-0, 6-0
decision against Katie Moak.
Also winning 6-0, 6-0 were Xavier's other All-American,
Anastesia Opata, at No. 1 and Melissa DeLoach at No. 5.
Opata and Callis beat Moak and Priscilla Erickson 8-0
at No. 1 doubles, and DeLoach and Ashley McGill defeated Annie Kelly and
Lindsay Bomba by the same score at No. 3.
It was the fifth consecutive road victory for the Nuggets, who lead the GCAC
by 2½ matches over second-place Spring Hill.
LSUS, in its first season of intercollegiate tennis, is 0-7 overall and 0-7
in the GCAC. The Lady Pilots have yet to win a singles or doubles match.
Xavier and LSUS will meet again April 18 in New Orleans.
Next for the Nuggets will be a trip to Montgomery, Ala.,
for the AUM Spring Invitational starting Friday. XU's women tentatively are scheduled
to play four ranked NAIA teams during that three-day event.
