Gold Rush's Harvey selected to All-GCAC team
March 5, 2010
NEW ORLEANS — Michael Harvey of Xavier University
of Louisiana was the Gold Rush's lone selection on the All-Gulf Coast Athletic
Conference men's basketball team announced Friday.
Harvey is a 6-foot-3 junior guard from Amite, La.,
and a graduate of Amite High School. He led Xavier this season with 13.3 points
per game and is in the top 50 in NAIA Division I in three categories: 24th
with a .427 3-point field-goal percentage, 41st with 2.2 3-pointers made per
game and 48th in 3-pointers made with 64.
A two-year starter, Harvey more than doubled his
scoring average from a year ago. He is the first Xavier player since 2003-04
to reach double figures in blocked shots and 3-pointers made in the same season.
"I'm real proud of Mike for this individual honor,"
Xavier Coach Dannton Jackson said. "He has come a long way since his freshman year.
He did a good job this year and hit some big shots. He played well."
Harvey was GCAC Player of the Week for Jan. 11-17, and
this week he won the Heritage Sports Radio Network HBCU Division II Fan Poll for
Feb. 22-27.
Xavier finished 18-13 after losing 71-56 Thursday at
Belhaven in the quarterfinals of the GCAC Tournament. The Gold Rush won its
last four regular-season games to finish 9-9 in conference and place sixth
out of 10 teams.
The 10 GCAC head coaches selected the team and the
special awards.
