Gold Rush, Gold Nuggets in same spots in NAIA top 25s

NEW ORLEANS — Both Xavier University of Louisiana
tennis teams held their positions in the NAIA coaches polls announced Tuesday.
The Gold Rush (6-1) remained 14th in the men's top 25,
and the Gold Nuggets (6-3) still are 21st in the women's rankings.
avier is one of two top-25 teams from the Gulf Coast
Athletic Conference for the second consecutive women's poll. The other is Mobile,
which remained 19th. Another GCAC women's team, Spring Hill, received more than
twice as many points as it did two weeks ago and is near the top of the
"others receiving votes" in a tie for 27th.
The top-ranked teams are Auburn Montgomery's women
and Fresno Pacific's men. AUM has been No. 1 in 42 consecutive women's polls
dating to Feb. 11, 2004.
Both Xavier teams will resume their schedules on
March 4 — one week from Thursday — against GCAC opponent William Carey.
Those dual matches will start at 5 p.m. at the University of New Orleans Tennis Center.
William Carey, fielding intercollegiate tennis teams for the first time since
the 1990s, received votes in the men's poll and is 28th after its 5-4 home
loss to Xavier this past Wednesday.
