McNeese State wins rematches, sweeps Gold Nuggets

Results
NEW ORLEANS — McNeese State picked up points
where it couldn't last season and defeated Xavier University of Louisiana
9-0 Sunday in a women's tennis dual match at the University of New Orleans
Tennis Center.
The Cowgirls' Ralista Pirdopska defeated the Gold
Nuggets' Anastesia Opata 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5) at No. 1 singles and teamed
with Victoria Martinez for an 8-3 decision at No. 1 doubles over Opata and
Angelina Callis. Xavier won those same matchups a year ago in a 6-3
McNeese victory.
Callis, like Opata, also split sets with her singles
opponent but lost 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (12-10) to Ilona Serchenko at the No. 2 flight.
Callis beat another McNeese player at No. 2 singles a year ago.
McNeese won all the other matches in straight sets.
McNeese is 3-0, and Xavier is 2-3. It was the second
loss of the season for Xavier, an NAIA member, against an NCAA Division I opponent.
The Gold Nuggets' next dual will start at 2 p.m.
Friday against Gulf Coast Athletic Conference opponent Loyola at Tulane's
Goldring Stadium.
