In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Gold Nuggets roll past Carey, grab 2-game lead in GCAC
January 23, 2010
Box score
NEW ORLEANS — Brittany Powell scored 27 points
Saturday to lead Xavier University of Louisiana to a 71-46 Gulf Coast
Athletic Conference women's basketball victory over William Carey.
The Gold Nuggets (13-5 overall, 6-0 GCAC) won their
sixth in a row and took a two-game lead in the conference over four teams,
including William Carey.
Powell was 11-of-15 from the floor and made 5-of-6
free throws in 28 minutes. She has scored 56 points the past two games. Her 29
at Mobile on Thursday and her 27 against Carey are the top two single-game
performances by a Xavier female in six seasons.
Christina Warren scored 14 points, 10 in the
second half, for Xavier.
Consuela Tucker scored 15 points, Alisha Mason 12
and Hope Swindle 11 for William Carey (7-8, 4-2). The Nuggets limited All-GCAC
guard Kim Lewis to seven points and 2-of-9 from the floor in 38 minutes.
The Nuggets led 37-25 at halftime. Mason's 3-pointer
with 11:01 remaining cut Xavier's lead to 45-37, but the Nuggets answered with
a 20-3 run during the next seven minutes.
In the first half Carey spent 5½ minutes with the lead
and held its biggest advantage, 10-5, after Tucker's basket at 14:54.
Xavier outshot Carey 43 to 39 percent from the floor
and outrebounded the Lady Saders 39-31. Xavier continued its free-throw success,
making 15-of-18 to improve to 80 percent in eight January games.
Xavier has won 50 of its past 52 GCAC games at The Barn.
Xavier's next game will start at 5:30 p.m. Monday at The Barn
against city opponent Loyola, the three-time defending GCAC
regular-season champion.
