ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Gold Nuggets glow and shine after Powell scores 29
January 21, 2010
Box score
MOBILE, Ala. — Brittany Powell scored a career-high
29 points Thursday to lead Xavier University of Louisiana to a 69-50 Gulf Coast
Athletic Conference women's basketball victory over Mobile.
Powell, a senior forward/center from Milwaukee and a
graduate of Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, scored the most points by a
Xavier female in six seasons.
The Gold Nuggets (12-5 overall, 5-0 GCAC) outscored
the Lady Rams (11-4, 3-2) 10-0 in the first 6:47 and never lost the lead.
Powell, the reigning GCAC and Heritage Sports Radio
Network Division II Fan Poll Player of the Week, was 12-of-15 from the floor —
she made eight in row during a 23-minute stretch — and 5-of-6 from the
line to help Xavier win its fifth in a row and maintain sole possession
of first place in the conference.
"I'm not surprised by Brittany," Xavier Coach Bo
Browder said. "I think she's the most talented player in our conference.
If she's focused she could score 30 every night."
SiMon Franklin added 10 points for the Nuggets and
reached double figures for the first time in seven games.
Adrienne Mackay scored 16 points and Davina Jefferson
15 for Mobile.
It's the eighth time this season Xavier allowed 50
or fewer points. The Nuggets limited Mobile to its fewest points of the season.
Xavier led 36-23 at halftine and had a double-digit
lead for nearly all of the final 30 minutes. The Lady Rams never came closer
than nine points in the second half.
"We're still growing," Browder said. "We're learning
and making better decisions. We've just got to keep playing hard and keep
finding ways to get better. There's still a lot of basketball to be played."
Xavier will play William Carey, one game behind the
Nuggets in the GCAC, at 5 p.m Saturday at The Barn.
