In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Gold Nuggets' Powell is GCAC Player of the Week
January 4, 2010
NEW ORLEANS — Senior Brittany Powell of Xavier
University of Louisiana is the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the
Week in women's basketball for Dec. 28-Jan. 3.
Powell, a 6-foot forward/center from Milwaukee, Wis.,
and a graduate of Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, averaged 13.4 points
and 6.2 rebounds as Xavier played five games in seven days -- three in Irvine,
Calif., then two at home. She was Xavier's representative on the Surf City Classic
all-tournament team and scored a season-high 18 points against Daemen in the
middle game of that event on Tuesday.
Powell had 17 points, seven rebounds and two blocked
shots Sunday against Campbellsville, ranked 10th in NAIA Division I, in a 71-70
loss at The Barn. She made 5-of-5 free throws against the Lady Tigers for the
best single-game accuracy by a Gold Nugget this season.
This is the second time Powell has won the GCAC's weekly
award. She first did it for Dec. 1-7, 2008.
Xavier is 7-5, and its next game will be its Gulf
Coast Athletic Conference opener at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at LSU-Shreveport.
The next home game will start at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 14 against GCAC opponent
Spring Hill at The Barn.
