In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Manning's overtime basket at the buzzer beats Gold Rush
November 14, 2009
Box score
NEW ORLEANS — Senior guard Trey Manning swished
a 19-footer at the buzzer in overtime Saturday to lift Texas College to a
67-65 men's basketball victory over Xavier University of Louisiana.
Both teams are 3-1. The Steers denied the Gold Rush
its seventh consecutive 4-0 start and beat Xavier for the first time in seven
tries since 1993. Xavier leads the series 24-8.
Manning, who also had nine rebounds and six assists,
made the winning shot after Xavier's Wanto Joseph committed an offensive foul
with 22 seconds remaining.
Jacobie Bias added 17 points for Texas College, and
David Hymes had 12, six in overtime.
Devin Andrew scored 14 points and Cordell Hadnot
12 for Xavier. Hadnot scored six in overtime.
Kevin Miller's basket at 2:35 of the extra period
gave Xavier its biggest lead, 61-57. But the Steers tied the game after Bias
made two free throws at 2:19 and Hymes made two more at 1:57.
Texas College led throughout most of regulation,
including 47-38 with 6:50 remaining and 52-45 at 3:30. But the Gold Rush scored
on its final five possessions, including Ryan DeRousselle's two free throws with
7.8 seconds remaining to tie the score at 57. Manning then missed a shot on the
final possession to send the teams to overtime.
The Steers made 12 consecutive free-throw attempts in
the final 11 minutes — they were 6-of-6 in overtime —
after making three of their first 12.
Xavier trailed 26-19 at halftime but rallied by
shooting 59 percent from the floor in the second half. Andrew was 4-of-4 from
the floor and 2-of-2 from the line after the break but fouled out with 22 seconds
remaining in regulation.
It was just the third Xavier loss in its past 21 games
at The Barn dating to February 2008.
Xavier's next game will start at 6 p.m. Wednesday
against NCAA Division II opponent Delta State at The Barn. Texas College will
visit NCAA Division I opponent Sam Houston State at 7 p.m. Monday.
