In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

November 13, 2009
Box score
NEW ORLEANS — Devin Andrew scored 11 points
Friday to lead Xavier University of Louisiana to a 61-51 men's basketball
victory over Brewton-Parker at The Barn.
It's the first time since 2004-05 that the Gold
Rush (3-0) has opened with three consecutive double-digit victories.
Andrew, the only Xavier player to score in double
figures in each of the first three games, made all seven of his free throws and
has made 13 straight since missing in the first half of the opener. The junior
guard is 16-of-17 from the line this season.
Ryan DeRousselle added 10 points for Xavier,
which led 33-23 at halftime and maintained a double-digit lead for all but
35 seconds of the second half. The Rush's largest lead was 17 points four times,
all after the break.
Cory Roth scored 10 points and Justin Owens eight
for Brewton-Parker (1-3). Roth had three assists and three steals.
Xavier trailed 10-9 in the first eight minutes before grabbing
the lead for good with a 14-2 run. Freshmen Denzell Erves and DeRonn Scott each scored
four points during the burst, which gave Xavier a 23-12 lead at 5:54.
Xavier outshot Brewton-Parker 39 to 33 percent from
the floor and outrebounded the Barons 44-32.
Xavier is 3-0 for the eighth consecutive season and
has won 18 of its past 20 games at The Barn dating to February 2008.
This was the first meeting between the NAIA schools.
Both teams will play Saturday. Xavier will meet Texas
College at 7 p.m. at The Barn, and Brewton-Parker will remain in the city to play
Loyola at 3 p.m.
