Gold Nuggets start fast to rout exhibition opponent

NEW ORLEANS — Brittany Powell and Jazmoné Kelly
scored 12 points apiece Saturday and led Xavier University of Louisiana to a
64-35 women's basketball exhibition victory against the New Orleans Lady
Hurricanes at The Barn.
The Gold Nuggets avenged a one-point loss from a
year ago to the Lady Hurricanes, a member of the Women's Blue Chip Basketball League.
The Nuggets started and ended the game with 14-3
runs. They led 30-9 in the first 16 minutes and held a double-digit lead for
the final 31:56.
SiMon Franklin added 10 points for Xavier.
Brandy Simmons and Dawanda Sterling scored 12 points
apiece for the Lady Hurricanes.
Xavier outshot the Lady Hurricanes 43 to 26 percent from
the floor and outrebounded them 49-29. Powell and Danielle Kennebrew each grabbed
nine rebounds for the Nuggets.
Xavier's next game will start at 6 p.m. Monday against
NCAA Division II opponent LeMoyne-Owen at The Barn.
