In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

NEW ORLEANS — Devin Andrew scored 12 of his 14
points in the second half Saturday to lead Xavier University of Louisiana in a
70-54 men's basketball victory over Wesley (Miss.) at The Barn.
Cordell Hadnot scored a career-high 13 points for
the Gold Rush (2-0), and Wanto Joseph and Michael Harvey scored 10 apiece.
The Rush, which led by 20 at Southern two days earlier
in an exhibition game before losing in overtime, outscored Wesley 54-27 in the
final 24 minutes after trailing 27-16. DeRonn Scott's basket with 16:05 remaining
put Xavier ahead to stay, 38-37, and was part of 13-0 run.
Jamal Evans and Jeff Patterson scored nine points apiece
for Wesley (1-3), which lost for the second day in a row. The Warriors entered
with an 89-point scoring average and won Tuesday at NCAA Division I member Mississippi Valley.
Xavier outshot Wesley 58 to 41 percent from the
floor — it was 64 to 30 percent in the second half — and committed
10 fewer turnovers than the Warriors.
Scott had eight points, six points and five rebounds
for Xavier, and Landon Bussie grabbed nine rebounds.
The victory was Xavier's 17th at The Barn in 19 games dating to February 2008.
Xavier's next game will be a 7 p.m. exhibition Tuesday at
Western Kentucky. The Rush's next regular-season game will start at 7 p.m. Friday
