ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Gold Nuggets 28th in NAIA preseason rankings
October 26, 2009
|
NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's
women's basketball program, conspicuously absent from this past season's NAIA
Division I National Championship, was 28th in the 2009-10 preseason coaches
poll announced Monday.
The Gold Nuggets, who missed the national tournament
just twice in the past 15 seasons, received 37 points and missed the top 25 by
24 points. A year ago the Nuggets were 19th in the preseason poll but failed to
sustain the momentum, dropping out of the top 25 by Jan. 12 and collecting three
points to tie for 35th place in the final rankings.
Xavier returns 11 letterwomen, including
honorable-mention All-American Brittany Powell, and will begin its season
this week in the Port City Tip-Off Classic at Mobile, Ala. The Nuggets will
play Talladega at 5 p.m. Friday and Martin Methodist —
which spent five consecutive weeks in the top 25 this past season —
at 1 p.m. Saturday. Both games will be played at the University of Mobile's Pharr Gym.
Xavier was one of three Gulf Coast Athletic Conference
teams to receive votes. Loyola, the three-time defending regular-season champion,
is No. 21. LSU-Shreveport, which earned its first bid to the national tournament
this past season, is 34th.
Xavier will play three preseason top-25 teams at
The Barn after Christmas — No. 17 Lindsey Wilson on Jan. 2, No. 11
Campbellsville on Jan. 3 and Loyola on Jan. 25.
The next coaches poll will be announced Dec 7.
