ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

7 games vs. NAIA tourney teams on Nuggets' schedule
September 23, 2009
NEW ORLEANS — Games with seven NAIA Division I
National Championship qualifiers from this past season are on the 2009-10
Xavier University of Louisiana women's basketball schedule.
Eleventh-year head coach Bo Browder, whose
243 victories are the most in the Gold Nuggets' history, announced the
schedule Wednesday.
Xavier will play the first of those national
tournament teams, Langston, on the final day of the Xavier Classic on Nov. 27
at The Barn. The Nuggets will play three of them in a row during the first
seven days of January — Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville at
Xavier, then a visit to LSU-Shreveport to open the Gulf Coast Athletic
Conference schedule.
LSUS will visit The Barn on Feb. 6, and the Nuggets
will play the GCAC's three-time defending regular-season champion, Loyola,
Jan. 25 at The Barn and Feb. 18 at Loyola.
Also notable:
• The regular-season opener, Oct. 30
against Talladega in the Port City Tip-Off Classic at Mobile, Ala., will be the earliest
in program history.
• The Nuggets will play six times in November,
all at The Barn.
• After the Langston game, Xavier will wait 30
days to play again — Dec. 28 against Concordia (Calif.) in the Surf City Classic at
Irvine, Calif. The Nuggets will play three consecutive days in the Surf City
Classic, then come home to play Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville — five
games in seven days.
"Everybody's schedule has challenges, and this schedule certainly
has them," said Browder. "Whether you look at the number of quality opponents we
play or the gaps between games, we will be tested."
Xavier's second opponent, Martin Methodist, won 19 games
this past season. Daemen, an NAIA Division II member and the middle opponent at the Surf City Classic, won 22.
Talladega won 18, including 12 of its final 14 en route to a ninth-place finish
in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Championship.
There will be three non-conference home doubleheaders with Xavier's men,
most notably Nov. 21 against Wiley during XU's homecoming.
The Wiley game will end an 11-day layoff.
For the third straight year Xavier's home doubleheader with longtime
city, HBCU and GCAC rival Dillard will be played in New Orleans Arena and be called the
Crosstown Classic.
An added feature of this season's Crosstown Classic will be Rush/Nugget Alumni Weekend, a gathering
of former XU men's and women's basketball players.
The other Xavier-Dillard matchup will be Jan. 30
at the University of New Orleans' Lakefront Arena.
Xavier's home game against LSUS will be
a Women's Basketball Coaches Association Pink Zone Game and a fundraiser
for breast cancer awareness.
The GCAC Tournament will begin March 1 and be played at
campus sites for the fifth straight year. Hosts in each round will be the highest
surviving seeds.
Xavier was 23-9 in 2008-09
and placed third in the GCAC. The Gold Nuggets qualified for the NAIA Division I National Championship
13 times in the past 15 seasons, and they reached 20 victories 16 times in the past 17 seasons.
