XU freshman is GCAC's first Runner of the Week in '09

NEW ORLEANS — Mark Dotson of Xavier University of
Louisiana is the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Runner of the Week in men's cross country
for Aug. 31-Sept. 6.
Dotson, a freshman from Alexandria, La., and a 2009 graduate of
Holy Savior Menard Central High School, ran four miles in 21 minutes, 58.43 seconds Friday and
finished third out of 33 runners in the season-opening Southern Miss Invitational at
Hattiesburg, Miss. Dotson's time is the second fastest in school history.
Dotson, Matt Pieri and Darren Wallace all placed in the
top 10 to help the Gold Rush finish second out of five schools in team scoring.
Xavier, an NAIA member, outscored a pair of NCAA Division I opponents, Jackson State and Nicholls State.
Xavier's next meet will be Saturday in the Wolfpack
Invitational at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, a suburb of New Orleans. The women's race
will start at 8 a.m., followed by the men at 8:35. Both races will cover
5,000 meters (3.1 miles).
