September 4, 2009

NEW ORLEANS — Jeremy Mansel, a two-time All-Appalachian AA Region selection from Greenville, S.C., has signed a men's basketball scholarship with Xavier University of Louisiana.
Mansel, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound forward, will be one of six freshmen on the Gold Rush roster this season.
Mansel averaged 23.2 points and 13.6 rebounds per game for Carolina High School and Academy this past season and shot 62 percent from the floor and 71 percent from the line. He led Carolina to the third round of the Class AA playoffs and was All-Greenville County second team. He led the West with 19 points in the Palmetto Athletic Association Senior Showcase in March.
"We hope Jeremy will help us be a better rebounding team," said Dannton Jackson, Xavier's seventh-year head coach.
Recently hired XU assistant coach Alfred Williams, who is from Greenville, recruited Mansel.
Xavier is an NAIA Division I member which finished 19-12 in 2008-09 and tied for fourth place in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. The Gold Rush's 25 seasons of 20 or more victories are the most in the history of Louisiana men's collegiate basketball. Jackson's Xavier teams reached 20 victories in five of his first six seasons and qualified for the NAIA Division I National Championship four of the past five seasons..
