ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

NEW ORLEANS — Terry Richardson, a senior on the
Xavier University of Louisiana men's tennis team, has been chosen to the ESPN
The Magazine Academic All-District 6 at-large first team in the college division.
Richardson, from Ellenwood, Ga., and Stockbridge High
School, qualified academically with a 3.56 grade-point average. He is the second
Xavier male athlete this year to make an Academic All-District team. Kelechi Okoroha
was a second-team selection in basketball.
This is the latest in a slew of honors this spring
for Richardson, who was Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year for
the second time in three seasons, a second-team NAIA All-American and the NAIA
South region winner of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Arthur Ashe Jr.
Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship.
District 6 comprises schools from six states: Louisiana,
Arkansas, Mississippi, New
|
Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. There are eight districts nationwide,
and teams represent the university division (NCAA Division I members) or the college division
(everyone else, including Xavier). Nominees must be a starter or important reserve with
at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale). They also must have completed
at least one full calendar year at their current institution and reached
sophomore athletic eligibility. First-team all-district members advance to
the Academic All-America ballot.
Checks of multiple sources produced no Xavier
representatives before this year on Academic All-District or Academic All-America
teams, which are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Richardson is the only male from the GCAC or an HBCU
(Historically Black Colleges and Universities) to make an at-large Academic
All-District team this year and one of six from the NAIA.
Xavier was 17-7 this season. Coach Alan Green's Gold Rush
set a school record for season victories, won the GCAC Tournament for the fourth straight
time in five seasons and reached the second round of the NAIA National Championship
in its first appearance.
