Callis, Sean Richardson win GCAC weekly honors
April 13, 2009

NEW ORLEANS — For the fourth time this season, Xavier University of Louisiana has swept the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards in women's and men's tennis. Junior Angelina Callis is the women's winner, and freshman Sean Richardson won the men's honor.
Callis, from Los Angeles and a graduate of Dorchester (Mass.) High School, was 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles in helping the Gold Nuggets earn victories against two ranked NAIA opponents, Union (Ky.) and Shorter. Callis has a seven-match win streak in doubles with Anastesia Opata.
Callis, a two-time GCAC weekly winner, leads the Nuggets with 18 doubles victories in 2008-09 and has 15 singles victories to share the team lead with Opata.
Richardson, from Atlanta suburb Ellenwood, Ga., and a Stockbridge High School alum, scored the only Gold Rush point in a loss to 15th-ranked Shorter and extended his singles winning streak to five matches. Richardson is 7-2 in singles and 12-5 in doubles in 2008-09.
Xavier players have accounted for five of the seven GCAC men's tennis awards this season and five of the seven women's awards. Sean Richardson's older brother, Terry, won the award twice.
Xavier's next men's and women's matches will start at 5 p.m. Friday against GCAC opponent Spring Hill at the University of New Orleans Tennis Center.
