Powell is honorable-mention All-Louisiana

     NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana women's basketball standout Brittany Powell received her third postseason honor late Friday when she earned honorable mention on the All-Louisiana team.
     A 6-foot forward from Milwaukee, Wis., and Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, Powell averaged 11.8 points and 6.1 rebounds in 2008-09, her first season with Xavier. She was NAIA Division I All-America honorable mention, All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, GCAC Player of the Week and Louisiana Player of the Week.
     Powell was the only double-figure scorer on a 23-9 team that finished third in the GCAC. She also led the team in minutes (23.6 per game), field-goal percentage (.507) and free throws made (84).
     Powell is the third player in Bo Browder's 10 seasons as Xavier head coach to make the All-Louisiana team or receive honorable mention. Kim Simpkins was honorable mention in 1998-99, and Jarryn Cleaves made the third team in 2004-05, 2006-07 and 2007-08.
     A Louisiana Sports Writers Association panel selected the All-Louisiana team. All players from four-year universities in the state are eligible.
