In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

LORMAN, Miss. — Xavier University of Louisiana, No.
13 in the NAIA men's tennis poll, defeated Alcorn State 4-3 Saturday to earn
its fifth consecutive victory.
Xavier's women, ranked 15th, lost 4-3 to Alcorn.
The victory was the fourth of the season for the Gold
Rush (13-4) against an NCAA Division I opponent, matching its total of 2008.
Xavier has beaten Alcorn (5-8) three consecutive times on the road dating to 2005.
The Rush trailed 3-1 before winning the final three singles
matches. Mario Myles clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-3 decision over
Yanick Shearron-Hawkins at No. 4. It was the sixth consecutive singles victory
for Myles.
Alcorn's Lady Braves (7-7) improved their winning
streak to four matches and snapped the five-match winning streak of the
Gold Nuggets (13-5).
Sarah Peters clinched the Lady Braves' victory with a
3-6, 6-1, 7-5 triumph over Marian Lang at No. 5 singles. Xavier won the top three
singles flights but missed a chance to win the doubles point when
Alcorn twins Denisse and Diana Favela rallied from a 7-4 deficit to
defeat Yuliem Dominguez and Colleen McArthur 9-8 at No. 2.
Xavier's next matches will be Thursday in Rome, Ga. —
probably against ranked NAIA teams — but opponents and times have not been
determined. The matches are a makeup for the NAIA Blast Off, which was rained
out this past weekend in Rome.
