Wet forecast will keep Xavier tennis teams home
March 25, 2009

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's trip to Rome, Ga., for the NAIA Blast Off tennis tournament was scrapped Wednesday when host Shorter College canceled the event due to the threat of inclement weather.
The Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets were scheduled to play Friday through Sunday in the tournament, which included seven ranked men's teams and nine ranked women's teams. Weather.com predicts an 80-percent chance of rain or showers on Thursday and Friday and a 70-percent chance of thunderstorms on Saturday.
The cancellation will create a two-week gap in Xavier's schedules. The Rush's and Nuggets' next competition will be dual matches against NCAA Division I opponent Alcorn State at 11 a.m. on April 4 at the University of New Orleans Tennis Center.
Xavier's men are 12-4 and ranked 13th in this week's NAIA coaches poll, and the women are 13-4 and ranked 15th.
