Powell receives All-America honorable mention

NEW ORLEANS — Brittany Powell, a junior at Xavier University
of Louisiana, received honorable mention Tuesday on the NAIA Division I All-America
team in women's basketball.
A 6-foot forward from Milwaukee,
Wis., and Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, Powell averaged 11.8 points and 6.1 rebounds
in 2008-09, her first season with Xavier. She was All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference.
GCAC Player of the Week and Louisiana Player of the Week.

Powell was the only double-figure scorer on a 23-9 team that
finished third in the GCAC.
She also led the team in minutes (23.6 per game),
field-goal percentage (.507) and free throws made (84) and was second in rebounds, blocked shots (41)
and free-throw percentage (.724). She had three
double-doubles, three 20-point games and was second in the conference and 27th in NAIA Division I
in blocked shots. She also helped Xavier rank in the top 11 nationally in five defensive categories.
Including her two seasons at San Jose State, Powell will
enter the 2009-10 season with three-year totals of 994 points and 550 rebounds in 93 games.
