ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

NEW ORLEANS — The University of New Orlenas won
every match but two in earning dual-match victories against Xavier University of
Louisiana at UNO Tennis Center on Friday.
The Lady Privateers won 6-1 — that snapped the
Gold Nuggets' seven-match winning streak — and the Privateers won 7-0.
The Gold Nuggets, shut out by UNO in 2005 and 2003,
earned a point when Anastesia Opata defeated Kir Kemp 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 1 singles.
But UNO (5-3) didn't drop a set in the other eight matches and rolled to its fifth
consecutive victory.
The Gold Rush also won a match when Terry Richardson and
Mikhail Vaval beat Guilherme Rebolo and Oliver Cuthill 8-5 at No. 2
doubles. But the Privateers (8-5) earned the doubles point by winning the other two
matches, then swept the six singles matches.
Xavier's closest men's singles match was at No. 6,
where Mario Myles lost 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-2) to Abdelrahman Zaki. None of Myles'
teammates won a singles set.
It was the first men's tennis dual between Xavier and
UNO since 2003.
Both Xavier teams are 7-3 and will return to UNO for
11 a.m. Sunday home duals against another NCAA Division I opponent, Jackson State.
