XU tennis teams earn two more GCAC victories apiece

     JACKSON, Miss. — Xavier University of Louisiana swept Belhaven and Tougaloo in men's and women's tennis Saturday, and both XU teams improved to 3-0 in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference.
     The Gold Nuggets defeated Belhaven 6-0 and Tougaloo 5-0. The Gold Rush beat Belhaven 6-0 and Tougaloo 6-0.
     Xavier extended its winning streaks in GCAC regular-season dual matches — 48 straight for the women, 32 for the men.
     The Rush and Nuggets combined to win all 36 sets in their matches and 228 of 249 games. Freshman Steffen Giles-Osborn won all 20 games he played — a doubles victory with Mike Green against Belhaven and a singles victory against Tougaloo. Angelina Callis, a junior on the women's team, won 32 of 33 games in two singles victories and a doubles victory.
     Xavier will play Belhaven (9 a.m.) and Tougaloo (1 p.m.) next Saturday too — this time at UNO Wow Café Tennis Center.

The Xavier Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets compete in Division I of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) as a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC). Xavier fields men's and women's teams in basketball, cross country and tennis.
