Xavier men 15th, women 18th in NAIA tennis polls
February 11, 2009

NEW ORLEANS — The Xavier University of Louisiana men's tennis team is 15th, and the women's team is 18th in the NAIA preseason coaches polls announced Wednesday.
The Gold Rush's ranking is its highest ever. The XU men were 17th in the final 2008 poll.
The Gold Nuggets' position is five notches lower than their final 2008 ranking but seven places higher than their 2008 preseason ranking.
Auburn Montgomery, the NAIA's three-time defending men's champion and five-time defending women's champion, was a unanimous No. 1 choice in both polls. Both Xavier teams will compete in a tournament at AUM with other ranked teams March 13-15.
The Rush (1-1) and Nuggets (1-2) will play their first home dual matches and open their Gulf Coast Athletic Conference schedules at 4 p.m. Friday against Mobile at UNO Wow Café Tennis Center. Both Xavier programs have lengthy winning streaks in GCAC regular-season matches — the women have won 45 in a row, and the men have won 29.
