ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

BAKER, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana earned
its first dual tennis victories of the season Saturday and continued its recent success
against Southern University.
The Gold Nuggets won 4-3, and the Gold Rush won 7-0 at
Greenwood Park Tennis Center. It was the third consecutive season that both Xavier teams
defeated Southern, an NCAA Division I opponent. Xavier is an NAIA member.
Angelina Callis clinched the Nuggets' victory by winning the
last five games — including three service breaks — of a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 decision
over Megan Wiltz at No. 2 singles.
"That was a real good comeback by Angelina," Xavier coach
Alan Green said. "She stayed positive. She got down in the match but never got down
mentally."
Callis also teamed with Anastesia Opata for an 8-1 victory over
Janelle Mosley and Bethlehem Workeneh at No. 1 doubles. Opata defeated Mosley 6-0, 6-4 at
No. 1 singles.
Southern had only four players available for the men's dual,
giving Xavier two automatic points at No. 5 and 6 singles and easier access to the doubles
point because of a default at No. 3. The Gold Rush dropped only one set in winning
the other six matches.
Xavier's Mike Green, Steffen Giles-Osborn and Mario Myles
all won singles and doubles matches. Giles-Osborn and Green beat Bino Rasedisa and
Marlon Gichie 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, then Green defeated Rasedisa 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
Xavier's women are 1-2, and the men are 1-1. Southern's
women are 0-3, and the men are 0-2.
Both Xavier teams will play their first home matches and first
Gulf Coast Athletic Conference matches at 4 p.m. Friday against Mobile at UNO Wow
Café Tennis Center.
