Williams shares GCAC Player of the Week award

     NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana sophomore Johnna Williams is a co-winner of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week award in women's basketball for Nov. 24-30.
     Williams, a 6-foot forward/center from Prairieville, La., and Dutchtown High School, averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and four blocks, all team bests, in a pair of victories at the Xavier Classic. Williams had more blocked shots in the tournament (8) than the other three teams combined (6) and scored in double figures in consecutive games for the second time as a collegian.
     She shares the award with Loyola's Trenese Smith, who averaged 28.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists during the Wolfpack's 1-1 week.

The Xavier Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets compete in Division I of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) as a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC). Xavier fields men's and women's teams in basketball, cross country and tennis.
