In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

November 7, 2008
Box score
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Brittany Powell scored
24 points, and NAIA No. 19 Xavier University of Louisiana rallied in the second
half Friday for a 69-55 women's basketball exhibition victory over Florida
Memorial in the HBCU Preseason Challenge.
The Gold Nuggets, 1-1 in exhibitions, will begin their
regular season at 6 p.m. EST Saturday against Edward Waters in this same event.
Edward Waters lost 78-44 to Bethune-Cookman in Friday's opening game.
Powell, a junior transfer from San Jose State, and
freshman Marchelle Jones each grabbed eight rebounds for Xavier, which trailed 35-29
at the break but used a 20-3 second-half run to take control.
Freshman Jasmine Grant scored 13 points, including
three 3-pointers, for the Nuggets, and Johnna Williams scored 10.
"We didn't turn the ball over as much in the second half,"
Xavier coach Bo Browder said. "And we made some shots. That's how we came back."
Kiesha Alexander scored 15 points — 13 in the first
half — and Dominique Butler 10 for Florida Memorial.
