ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

2009 tennis schedules include city rivals Tulane, UNO
October 6, 2008
NEW ORLEANS — City rivals
are on the Xavier University of Louisiana men's and women's tennis schedules
for the first time since 2005.
Coach Alan Green announced the spring portion of the 2008-09
schedules Monday. His teams competed in a pair of multischool tournaments in September.
The return of tennis programs at Tulane (women) and the
University of New Orleans (men and women) — both schools suspended their
programs after Hurricane Katrina — has increased Green's scheduling options.
The Gold Nuggets' first dual match of the spring semester will be Jan. 24 at Tulane,
and both Xavier teams will visit UNO on March 6.
Four more NCAA Division I opponents — Alcorn State,
Jackson State, Nicholls State and Southern — return from the 2008 schedules.
Nicholls State, Jan. 31 at Thibodaux, La., will be the first Xavier men's opponent of the spring.
Both the Gold Nuggets and Gold Rush will play several
NAIA teams ranked in the final 2008 coaches polls, including Embry-Riddle's
men and women, Webber International's men and Mobile's women. In addition,
eight ranked schools have committed to play in the Auburn Montgomery Invitational
at Montgomery, Ala., on March 13-15, and six have committed to the NAIA Blast Off at
Rome, Ga., two weeks later.
Xavier's first Gulf Coast Athletic Conference opponent
will be Mobile on Feb. 13 at home. Xavier will enter 2009 with winning streaks
of 45 for the Nuggets and 29 for the Rush in GCAC regular-season matches. Xavier
played 2008 home matches at UNO but has yet to determine its 2009 home sites.
The Mobile (Ala.) Tennis Center will be the site of
the GCAC Tournament on April 24-25 and the NAIA National Championship on May
11-15. The GCAC champions will qualify automatically for the NAIA national tournament.
Xavier's women were 17-8 this past season and No. 13
in the final poll. It was the fourth consecutive Nuggets team to be ranked in
the final top 25. For the third time in four seasons the Nuggets earned an
at-large bid to the NAIA National Championships and won a first-round match.
Xavier had four victories against NCAA Division I opponents, including SWAC
Tournament champion Alcorn State.
Anastesia Opata, a junior and a first-team NAIA
All-American this past season, returns for the Nuggets.
Xavier's men were 15-9, No. 17 in the final poll
and won the GCAC Tournament for the third time in four years. Miroslav Vukicevic
became the first NAIA All-American of the modern era of Xavier men's tennis.
The Rush had four victories against NCAA Division I opponents, including SWAC
Eastern Division champion Jackson State.
