In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Gold Rush second in GCAC basketball coaches poll
September 30, 2008
|
NEW ORLEANS — The men's basketball coaches of
the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference have picked Xavier University of Louisiana
to finish second in the 2008-09 standings.
The Gold Rush — 24-10 this past
season and a qualifier for the Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I National Championship
for a school-record fourth consecutive time — received a first-place vote
and 71 points, 10 less than
preseason favorite LSU-Shreveport, in a poll announced Tuesday.
LSUS received nine first-place votes and 81 points.
Tougaloo was third with 54 points.
Xavier was the preseason favorite in 2007-08 but
finished third in the GCAC. LSUS won the regular season and its third consecutive
GCAC Tournament title.
Senior guard Shaun Dumas, a two-time All-GCAC selection and the league's Freshman of
the Year in 2004-05, and junior forward Dannie Woods are the Rush's two returning
starters. Also back is senior forward Kelechi Okoroha, who shot 60 percent
from the floor the past two seasons.
Xavier will play its earliest regular-season opener,
which will tip off at 5 p.m. on Oct. 31 against Southern Polytechnic at The Barn. The GCAC opener
will be Jan. 8 at LSUS, and the Pilots will visit The Barn on Feb. 7.
