Tennis teams win 12 of 15 at HBCU Championships

ATLANTA — Xavier University of Louisiana's tennis teams won 12 of 15 matches
Thursday at the HBCU National Championships.
Terry Richardson of the Gold Rush and Marian Lang of the Gold Nuggets each won twice in
singles, and joining them in the quarterfinals were teammates Steffen Osborn, Sean
Richardson, Alexandra Broussard, Angelina Callis, Yuliem Dominguez and Anastesia Opata.
Osborn and Mikhail Vaval won in doubles, as did Broussard and Melissa DeLoach, who rallied from
a 3-0 deficit to defeat Winston-Salem State's Shannon Loughnan and Laken Joyce 8-4.
Lang, a freshman, beat players from NCAA Division I for
her first two collegiate victories. Lang defeated North Carolina A&T's
Danielle McCaskill 6-2, 6-4 and Bethune-Cookman's Andrea Paez in the women's B-flight.
Also collecting his first collegiate victory was
freshman Sean Richardson (Terry's brother), who defeated Virginia State's William Richardson
(no relation) 6-0, 6-0 in the C-flight.
Terry Richardson won 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) in the opening round of
the A-flight against Virginia State's John Lanier, the Central Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year this past season.
