Walston is GCAC Runner of the Week
September 25, 2008
NEW ORLEANS — Ray Walston of Xavier University of Louisiana
is the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Runner of the Week in men's cross country for Sept. 15-21.
Walston, a freshman from Atlanta, Ga., and a 2008 graduate of Mays High School, ran
8,000 meters in 27 minutes, 11 seconds Saturday and finished sixth out of 43 runners in the
Gulf Coast Stampede at Pensacola, Fla. Walston's time is the fastest by a Xavier male in
the past three seasons.
This is the first season that the GCAC has weekly awards
in cross country, and Walston is the first from Xavier to earn an award.
Xavier will compete Saturday in the Rhodes Invitational at Memphis,
Tenn. The women will run 5,000 meters at 9:30 a.m., and the men will run 8,000 meters at
10:10 a.m. It will be Xavier's third competition of the season.
