Richardson eliminated in Region XIII tennis tourney

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Xavier University of Louisiana's
Terry Richardson lost 6-1, 6-4 Saturday to Auburn Montgomery's third-seeded
Francisco Redondo in the men's singles quarterfinals of the ITA/NAIA Region XIII
Championships.
It was the second consecutive Xavier loss in the tournament
to Redondo, who defeated Steffen Osborn in the second round Friday.
"Terry played a tough match," Xavier coach Alan Green
said. "He was a couple of points away from winning the second set. Redondo beat
Terry last spring (6-1, 6-2 on March 17), but Terry has closed the gap between them."
Redondo was 15th in singles and first in doubles in the
ITA's final NAIA rankings this past season and a combined 7-0 in singles and
doubles at the NAIA National Championship, which AUM won for the third
consecutive season.
Xavier's next tournament will be the HBCU National Championships
at Atlanta, Ga. The four-day event will start Thursday.
