ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Nuggets to face challenging stretch of NAIA qualifiers
September 12, 2008
NEW ORLEANS — Five consecutive games against teams
which qualified for the 2008 NAIA Division I National Championship highlight the
2008-09 Xavier University of Louisiana women's basketball schedule.
Bo Browder, in his 10th season as the Gold Nuggets'
head coach, announced the schedule Friday.
The Nuggets' 19-day stretch of NAIA qualifiers consists of Berry
and Lee (Tenn.) in the Lady Flames Classic at Cleveland, Tenn., on Nov. 14-15, Langston
and Wiley in the Xavier Classic on Nov. 27-28 and a game at Wiley on Dec. 2. Those
opponents were a combined 118-20 this past season, and all but Berry won first-round
games at the national tournament.
Three more games against NAIA qualifiers will follow that
stretch: Dec. 20 in the San Juan Shootout (Puerto Rico) against four-time defending
Division I scoring champion Olivet Nazarene and Jan. 29 at home and Feb. 4 on the
road against city and Gulf Coast Athletic Conference rival Loyola.
Olivet averaged 104.1 points per game in 2007-08 —
missing the NAIA season record by less than four-hundredths of a point —
and set an NAIA record of 19 games scoring 100 or more points.
Loyola lost two of three games to Xavier this past season but won the GCAC regular-season
championship en route to a school-record 28 victories and its first appearance
in the NAIA quarterfinals.
For the second consecutive season and the sixth time
overall, Xavier's home doubleheader against longtime city, HBCU and GCAC rival
Dillard will be played at New Orleans Arena, which seats 17,200.
The Crosstown Classic
will be Saturday, Jan. 24, with the women's game tipping off at 5 p.m. and the men's game at 7.
The Nuggets' first regular-season game will be Nov. 8 against
Edward Waters in the HBCU Preseason Challenge at Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Xavier will play
a home exhibition Nov. 1 against the Louisiana Hurricanes and play its first
regular-season home game at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 10 against Huston-Tillotson.
The Nuggets will enter the season with a 19-game winning streak at The Barn.
The GCAC opener will be Jan. 8 at LSU-Shreveport.
Xavier's Feb. 14 home matchup against city, HBCU and GCAC rival SUNO will be a
WBCA Pink Zone Game.
Fans are encouraged to wear pink to that game, which is a fundraiser to benefit breast cancer research.
Xavier, an NAIA Division I school, was 27-7 in 2007-08, finished second
in the GCAC and won 65-64 at Loyola in the GCAC Tournament championship game. The Gold Nuggets
qualified for the NAIA Division I National Championship for a school-record seventh consecutive
time and the 13th time in 14 seasons.
