Gustav results in changes to cross country schedules

NEW ORLEANS — Hurricane Gustav caused minimal damage
at Xavier University of Louisiana, but the storm resulted in a makeover of the cross
country schedules.
Coach Joseph Moses said Wednesday he will send his men's and women's teams
to a different meet Saturday and fill open dates with meets Oct. 4 and 18.
After withdrawing from their first two meets because
of the hurricane, the Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets finally will get their chance to compete Saturday in
the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic at Memphis, Tenn. The women will run 5,000 meters at
8:40 p.m., and the men will run 8,000 meters at 9:20 p.m.
The Memphis meet is a replacement for the Southern University Invitational.
Both Xavier teams placed 10th in the 2007 Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic.
Moses said his teams will compete in the Centenary Invitational
at Shreveport, La., on Oct. 4 and the Choctaw Open at Clinton, Miss., on Oct. 18. Weather permitting,
the additions will result in seven consecutive weeks of competition.
The Choctaw Open will be run at Choctaw Trails Course, the site
of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship on Nov. 8. Both the Rush and Nuggets are
two-time defending GCAC champions.
