Xavier teams withdraw from Golden Eagle Classic
September 4, 2008

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's men's and women's cross country teams have withdrawn from Friday's Golden Eagle Classic Invitational at Hattiesburg, Miss., because the school remains closed.
Xavier closed this past Friday due to Hurricane Gustav, which hit metro New Orleans on Monday and also canceled the Gold Rush's and Gold Nuggets' season-opening Tulane Green Wave Invitational.
The university, which received minor damage from the storm, is scheduled to reopen Monday.
Xavier's teams are next scheduled to run Sept. 13 in the Southern University Invitational at Highland Road Park in Baton Rouge, La. Coach Joseph Moses said he will attempt to fill open dates Oct. 4 and 18 to replace the canceled competitions.
The Barn, Xavier's campus gymnasium and the home of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, had electrical power and showed virtually no storm damage during a Thursday inspection. The facility received two feet of flooding as a result of Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.
