March 25, 2008

NEW ORLEANS — Point guard Shaun Dumas of Xavier University of Louisiana earned honorable mention on the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball All-America team announced Tuesday.

Dumas, a 5-foot-11 junior from New Orleans and a 2004 graduate of St. Augustine High School, averaged 10.5 points, three rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.4 steals this season. He helped the Gold Rush go 24-10 and qualify for the NAIA national tournament for a school-record fourth consecutive time.

Dumas, a third-team All-American as a sophomore, has led the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference in steals all three of his seasons at Xavier. He scored a season-high 27 points Thursday in the Gold Rush's 76-69 loss to California Baptist in the national tournament at Kansas City, Mo.

He is the second Gold Rush player to earn multiple All-America recognition, joining Bruce Seals (honorable mention in 1971-72, first team in 1972-73).
