ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

NEW ORLEANS — Colleen McArthur defeated Paige Malone 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 singles
Friday to clinch NAIA No. 23 Xavier University of Louisiana's 5-4 Gulf Coast
Athletic Conference women's tennis victory over Spring Hill at UNO Wow Café Tennis Center.
Xavier's 24th-ranked men did not lose a set in their 9-0 victory over Spring Hill.
The Gold Nuggets (8-4 overall, 5-0 GCAC) never lost a match in winning three duals
against Spring Hill in 2007, but the Lady Badgers won two of three doubles matches
and were tied at three victories apiece when Alex Tovar beat Melissa DeLoach 6-2, 6-2 at
No. 6 singles.
But McArthur and Yuliem Dominguez, beaten in their No. 2 doubles match by Tovar
and Lynne Fritscher, sealed the Nuggets' sixth consecutive victory by winning
their singles matches. Dominguez beat Abbey Angelle 6-1, 6-1, then McArthur
defeated Malone for her fifth consecutive victory without dropping a set.
Xavier's men (7-6, 5-0) clinched their sixth victory in seven duals when Vusumzi
Kempele defeated Johnny Ngamvilay 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. That was one of
three matches the Gold Rush won with dropping a game. The others were Cameron
Knowles' 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jimmy Chassaing at No. 4 singles and Mikhail Vaval-Desse
and Miroslav Vukicevic's 8-0 decision over Chassaing and Chris Link at No. 2 doubles.
Spring Hill's women are 4-3 and 1-2, and the men are 0-8 and 0-3.
The next match for Xavier's men and women will start at 2 p.m. Monday at Auburn
Montgomery, the defending men's and women's NAIA national champion and ranked
first in both coaches polls this season. Both the Rush and Nuggets will play
five road matches in four days next week, including Shorter (men No. 19, women
No. 13) on Tuesday and Lee (men No. 7, women No. 18) on Wednesday. The trip
will conclude Thursday in Mobile, Ala., with GCAC matches against Spring
Hill and Mobile.
