Gold Nuggets return to 21st in NAIA rankings

NEW ORLEANS — After spending one week at No. 20, Xavier University of
Louisiana returned to 21st in the NAIA Division I women's basketball coaches
poll released Wednesday.
The Gold Nuggets, 13-3 overall and 3-1 in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference,
are tied for 21st with Cumberlands after defeating GCAC opponents SUNO 75-43
and Tougaloo 67-53 this past week. Xavier also tied for 21st in the
Dec. 5 and 12 rankings.
Union (15-0) of Jackson, Tenn., maintained the No. 1 spot it has held
since the preseason. The Lady Bulldogs were a unanimous choice for the top spot
for the fourth consecutive ranking.
Xavier will play a pair of GCAC games at home this week: 5:30 p.m. Thursday
against Mobile (8-7, 4-0) and 5 p.m. Saturday against William Carey.
The next coaches poll will be announced Jan. 23.
