Gold Rush falls to 16th in NAIA rankings

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana dropped five spots to No. 16 in the NAIA Division I men's basketball coaches poll released Wednesday.

The Gold Rush (13-3 overall, 3-1 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference) defeated SUNO 76-74 and lost 52-49 at Tougaloo in GCAC games this past week. Xavier is third in the 10-team conference, one game behind co-leaders LSU-Shreveport and Mobile.

Mountain State (16-0) of Beckley, W.Va., is No. 1 for the fifth consecutive ranking.

Xavier will play a pair of GCAC games at home this week: 7:30 p.m. Thursday against Mobile (9-5, 4-0) and 7 p.m. Saturday against William Carey.

The next coaches poll will be announced Jan. 23.
