Williams is GCAC Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS — Alfred Williams of Xavier University of Louisiana is the Gulf Coast Athletic
Conference Player of the Week in men's basketball for Dec. 24-30, the GCAC announced Wednesday.
Williams, a 6-foot-4 senior forward from Greenville, S.C., averaged 14.5 points and
9.5 rebounds in two games this past weekend and was selected all-tournament at the Texas
A&M-Kingsville Holiday Tournament. He scored 11 points and tied his season high of 10
rebounds Saturday against Texas A&M International and matched his career best of three
3-point field goals (3-of-3). Sunday he tied his season high of 18 points and grabbed
nine rebounds. In two games Williams shot 70 percent from the floor (7-of-10),
80 percent from 3-point range (4-of-5) and 73 percent from the line (11-of-15).
For the season Williams is third on the Gold Rush with a 10.8 scoring average. He is
second on the team with 6.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists and leads Xavier with 29.9 minutes.
The Gold Nuggets' Tiffany Norris scored 15 points to tie her career high. Xavier
(11-2), ranked 21st in NAIA Division I, has a seven-game win streak and won its Gulf
Coast Athletic Conference opener for the 14th consecutive time.
Williams is the second Gold Rush player this season to earn the GCAC award. Senior guard
Mark Stewart was the first winner for Nov. 26-Dec. 2.
Xavier, 10-2 and ranked 11th in NAIA Division I, will play its GCAC opener at Belhaven
(Rugg Arena, Jackson, Miss.) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Xavier's next home game will start at
7:30 p.m. on Jan. 10 against GCAC and city opponent SUNO.
