Andrews brings SCAD back against SUNO

NEW ORLEANS — Eze Andrews scored 23 points, including the go-ahead basket with
2:02 remaining, to rally Savannah College of Art and Design to a 71-66 men's basketball
victory over Southern University of New Orleans in the opening game of the adidas Hardwood
Classic at The Barn.
Xavier University of Louisiana, the host, defeated Spalding 77-44 in the second game.
SCAD (3-5) trailed 34-30 at halftime but opened the second half with a 14-1 run,
then built a 54-42 lead on Kevin Polit's basket with 10:30 remaining. Lamonte Theus'
basket gave SUNO (2-3) its last lead at 64-63 with 2:21 remaining before Andrews
answered less than half a minute later with his final points of the game.
Xavier Blain-Cruz added 18 points and Ron Kus 14 for the Bees, who have a two-game winning
streak. Andrews and Romell Witherspoon each grabbed six rebounds.
Dominic Perry scored 23 points, 16 in the first half, for SUNO. Traellis Gregg
and Chris Johnson scored 10 points apiece for the Knights, and Johnson had seven rebounds.
SCAD outshot SUNO 51 to 42 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Knights 36-31.
The Bees made 16-of-19 free throws, with Andrews making all seven of his.
SCAD will play Xavier at 7 p.m. CST Saturday, and SUNO will play Spalding at 5.
