For immediate release . . . November 28, 2007
NEW ORLEANS — Brandi Young, a 5-foot-6 guard from East High School in Memphis, Tenn.,
has signed a scholarship to play women's basketball with Xavier University of Louisiana.
Young, the fourth prep senior to sign with the Gold Nuggets this month, averaged 10 points,
eight rebounds and two assists per game as a junior at East. She helped the Lady Mustangs go
33-3 and reach the semifinals of the Class AAA state playoffs. She was the starting setter
on the volleyball team this fall.
"Brandi is a really nice player who will make a major impact for our program," Xavier
coach Bo Browder said.
Young is from the same high school which produced Jarryn Cleaves, a Xavier senior guard
who is a three-time All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference selection and the Nuggets'
career leader in 3-point field goals with 217.
Forward Hillary Dedeaux of Pass Christian, Miss., guard SiMon "Monee" Franklin of Baton Rouge,
La., and guard/forward Jazmone Kelly of Cincinnati, Ohio, signed with Xavier earlier this month.
Xavier is a member of NAIA Division I. The Nuggets, 6-2 this season with victories against NCAA
Division I members Northwestern State and Grambling, will play the College of the Bahamas in their
next game at 7 p.m. Thursday at The Barn.
