Gold Rush is 5th in VSN's NAIA rankings
For immediate release . . . November 14, 2007

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana is No. 5 in this week's Victory Sports Network NAIA Division I men's basketball rankings. The rankings are available at www.victorysportsnetwork.com.

The Gold Rush (3-0), which won three times this past week, moved up one notch in the rankings, which are determined by VSN writer David Paul Estes. Helping Xavier climb was a 68-67 home victory Saturday against Wiley, unranked by VSN this past week but is No. 23 this week. The Rush rallied from a 23-point first-half deficit and outscored Wiley 12-0 in the final three minutes.

Xavier was No. 8 in VSN's preseason rankings.

VSN's rankings are one of two during the NAIA basketball season. The NAIA conducts an official coaches poll in which Xavier was ranked 10th in the preseason. The first regular-season coaches poll will be announced Dec. 5.

Xavier will complete its season-opening five-game home stand with a 5 p.m. Friday game against Huston-Tillotson and a 7 p.m. Monday game against Albany State. Huston-Tillotson is Xavier's homecoming opponent.
