Nuggets win 16th consecutive home opener

NEW ORLEANS — LaTashia Wise had career-bests of 13 points and five assists Saturday, and freshman Danielle Jones had 10 points and 10
rebounds to lead the Xavier University of Louisiana women's basketball team to its 16th consecutive victory in a home opener,
75-30 against Texas College.
Erica Turnbull scored 12 points and Jarryn Cleaves 11 for the Gold Nuggets (1-1).
Wise made 5-of-6 from the floor and scored 11 first-half points to lead Xavier to a 42-10 halftime advantage.
The Nuggets took their biggest lead, 68-22, on Brittany Whitmore's 3-pointer with 7:51 remaining.
Jones, a 5-foot-9 forward, had eight points and seven rebounds in the second half.
Erica Delley scored 13 points, and Moniche Martinez grabbed 11 rebounds for Texas College (0-2),
which dressed only six players.
Xavier's defense produced 29 turnovers and limited the Lady Steers to 27-percent shooting from the floor.
Xavier shot 40 percent and had a 48-28 rebound advantage.
Xavier's next game will start at 5:30 p.m. Friday against Concordia (Ala.) at The Barn.
