ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Xavier women miss preseason top 25 by 3 points
For immediate release . . . October 31, 2007
NEW ORLEANS — Just missed again.
The Xavier University of Louisiana women's basketball team was three points from reaching
the top 25 in the NAIA Division I preseason poll released Wednesday. The Gold
Nuggets collected 64 points to lead the list of "others receiving votes."
The Nuggets' position was the same in February, when they missed the top 25 by
two points in the final regular-season poll.
Xavier was 23-12 in 2006-07 and returns four starters — guards Jarryn
Cleaves and Brittany Whitmore, center Erica Turnbull and forward Tiffany Norris
— from that team. All are seniors.
Cleaves is a three-time All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference selection and was an
NAIA honorable-mention All-American as a junior. Turnbull was All-GCAC as a junior.
Xavier spent five weeks in the top 25 during the 2006-07 season and climbed as high as No. 21.
Two Xavier opponents are in the top 25. One is No. 14 Langston, whom the Nuggets
will visit Thursday (Nov. 1) in the season opener; the other is GCAC and city
rival Loyola, which is No. 17. Xavier will visit Loyola
on Jan. 31 and play host to the Wolfpack on Feb. 28.
Union (Tenn.), which reached the semifinals of the national tournament in March,
is the preseason No. 1 team.
The first regular-season poll will be released Dec. 5.
