Gold Nuggets picked to finish second in GCAC

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana was picked to finish
second in the 2007-08 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference women's basketball standings,
according to a preseason coaches poll announced Thursday.
The Gold Nuggets, who were 23-12 in 2006-07 and finished second in the GCAC
regular season and tournament, received one first-place vote and 65 points.
City rival Loyola, which won the regular-season and tournament championships
this past season, earned eight first-place votes and 72 points.
Xavier will travel to Loyola on Thursday, Jan. 31 and play host to the Wolfpack on
Thursday, Feb. 28.
The Nuggets will open the season on Thursday, Nov. 1 at Langston and
play their home opener on Saturday, Nov. 3 against Texas College. The GCAC opener
will be Thursday, Jan. 3 at Belhaven, and the GCAC home opener will be
Thursday, Jan. 10 against SUNO.
