McArthur places second in consolation bracket
For immediate release . . . September 22, 2007
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Xavier University's Colleen McArthur lost 9-8 (7-4)
Saturday to Brenau's Jolene Wong in the women's singles consolation final of the
ITA/NAIA Region XIII Tennis Championships at Lagoon Park Tennis Center.
McArthur reached the final after an 8-2 victory against Brenau's Diana Cardenas.
Wong defeated Xavier's Selam Workeneh 9-8 (7-5) in the other semifinal, after
Workeneh beat Brenau's Shkurte Ejupi 9-7.
In the men's singles main draw, Xavier's Terry Richardson defeated teammate Miroslav
Vukicevic 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 in the second round, then lost 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals to
Auburn Montgomery's second-seeded Daniel Plasa.
Xavier's Anastesia Opata and Yuliem Dominguez lost 8-4 in the first round of
women's doubles to Auburn Montgomery's top-seeded Kamila Dadakhodjaeva and Dominika
Zuzulova.
The tournament was the first of two on Xavier's fall schedule.
