For immediate release . . . July 24, 2007
NOTE: Story revised July 27 with new October 6 meet
and on August 14 with new September 7 meet
NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University will be the host for the
Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships,
and the Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets will compete in two other Louisiana meets, both in
New Orleans, during the 2007 season.
Coach Joseph Moses announced on Tuesday Xavier's schedule, which will begin Friday, Aug.
31 in the
Tulane Green Wave Invitational at City Park in New Orleans. That meet will be
the first in New Orleans for Xavier's women since 2004 and the first for the men since 2003.
The Tulane meet will be the first of six consecutive weekly meets for Xavier. Then
the Rush and Nuggets will take a week off from competition, then run in the GCAC
Championships Oct. 20 at Highland Road Park in Baton Rouge. Xavier won the men's and
women's team championships at the 2006 GCAC meet in Clinton, Miss.
Xavier and its city and GCAC rival, Loyola, will co-host the
Big Easy Invitational at
Audubon Park on Sept. 15.
Xavier will compete in Florida for the second consecutive year — this time at
NAIA member Embry-Riddle's meet — and make consecutive trips to Memphis.
The Rush and Nuggets will compete Nov. 3 in the NAIA Region XIII Championships at Rome,
Ga., where they'll attempt to qualify for the NAIA National Championships at Kenosha, Wis., on Nov. 17.
Xavier will return six All-GCAC runners — Ebony Harding, Lonique Moore, Stacey
Young and Ashley Broden on the women's team, Darren Wallace and Bryan Khan on the men's —
from the 2006 season. Harding and Wallace were second-team All-Region XIII, and Harding was
All-Louisiana and the women's Louisiana Newcomer of the Year. Moses was the men's and women's
GCAC and Louisiana Coach of the Year in 2006.
