In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Varnado standout signs with Gold Nuggets
For immediate release . . . July 23, 2007
Le'Keisha Lee

NEW ORLEANS — Le'Keisha Lee, a 6-foot forward/center from Angie, La., and
Varnado High School, has signed a women's basketball scholarship with
Xavier University of Louisiana.
Lee averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds per game in 2006-07 and was an
honorable-mention All-District 9-2A selection. She led the Lady Wildcats in
rebounding and shot 50 percent from the floor and 60 percent from the line her senior year.
|
"We wanted to pick up another post player, and we were fortunate to hear about
Le'Keisha this summer," Xavier Coach Bo Browder said. "I think she will contribute as
a freshman."
Lee will be one of four 6-footers on the Gold Nuggets' 2007-08 roster.
A four-year member of Varnado's varsity and a part-time starter
as a junior, Lee said she will major in sociology at Xavier and plans to become a social
worker. She played AAU ball this year for the Baton Rouge Amazons.
Lee's prep coach, Lubertha Peters, said Lee is the first Varnado girls
basketball player to sign with a four-year school in at least 10 seasons.
"Le'Keisha is a hard worker and dedicated," Peters said. "She's easy to work with.
She'll listen to you and give it her best shot."
Lee is the Gold Nuggets' fifth signed recruit for the 2007-08 season and
the fourth from Louisiana. Previously signed were guard Shayla Boyd and
forwards Danielle Jones and Johnna Williams, all from the Baton Rouge area, and
forward Ciara Taylor of Hayward, Calif.
